Economic Development
Economic Development is important to Grise Fiord. We are always looking for business development within the community, but more so for development that may generate an inflow of dollars from outside our community. One example is tourism.
Our Community Economic Development Officer (CEDO) is Larry Audlaluk. In pursuing economic and business development in our community, he is supported by the SAO and other staff who may be able to provide input on specific initiatives (which could include business development, employment, and training).
There are various funding and other resources available within Nunavut, and more specifically in the Qikiqtani Region, for new and existing businesses.
For example, for traditional businesses that support the local economy there is almost always funding available to support these initiatives. NTI and QIA may feature funding programs that meet your needs. Larry can assist in informing you of these sources, and with an application for funding.
And for larger/upstart businesses, our CEDO can also provide assistance, identifying possible funding sources, as well as helping to guide you through the process of securing land, for example, or in providing contact information for local contractors.
